今年10歲的Lem Sotheara，正在就讀四年級。他說：「我每天都要走很久的路才能到學校，天氣很熱，很累。我沒有書包，沒有筆記本可以上課。」

 

在台灣，孩子們只需坐上公車、捷運，或者由父母接送，甚至步行5-10分鐘就能到達學校。他們上課時，學校會準備好書本、筆記本和書包。然而，在柬埔寨偏鄉，孩子們每天要步行超過30分鐘才能到達學校。對於連一餐溫飽都成問題的貧困家庭，購買學用品更是奢望...這就是柬埔寨偏鄉的日常生活。

 

Sotheara充滿堅毅地說：「但這些困難都不會擊垮我，我依然會努力學習、每天去上課。有協會提供的白米讓我和家人吃飽，有制服和文具可以讓我上學。因為每天乖乖去學校學習，我相信未來能找到一份好工作來照顧我的家人。」

 

而白米，對台灣人來說，是日常生活中最基本的糧食，但對這些柬埔寨偏鄉的村民來說，卻需要辛苦工作很久才能勉強吃到。我們該如何幫助這些偏鄉的村民和孩子們，讓他們補充營養，減緩飢餓呢？

10-year-old Lem Sotheara is now studying in fourth grade. He says, "I have to walk a long way to get to school. It's so hot and tiring… but I don't even have a backpack or notebooks for my classes."

 

In Taiwan, children can reach their schools by bus, metro, or with a short walk of 5-10 minutes, often with their parents’ assistance. Schools provide them with books, notebooks, backpacks and other materials. However, in rural Cambodia, children like Sotheara have to walk more than 30 minutes to reach school. For families struggling to have enough food for a single meal, buying school supplies is a distant dream. This is the harsh reality of daily life in rural Cambodia.

 

With determination, Sotheara says, "But these difficulties won't defeat me. I will keep studying and attend school every day. The rice provided by FBHO stops my family from starving, and the uniforms and stationery allow me to go to school. By diligently attending school every day, I believe I can find a good job in the future to support my family."

Rice is also a staple in Taiwan, but for the people in rural Cambodia, it's something they can only afford after long hours of hard work. How can we help these impoverished villagers and children get the nutrition they need to alleviate hunger?

A donation of NT$1,000 provides one unit of rice, enough to feed a rural family. Our goal is to collect 1,000 units of rice, which will feed over a thousand poor villagers and give them hope and support in their challenging lives 🌟.
